Future Urban Skyscrapers

The Astra Skyscraper in Salt Lake City is Designed by HKS

The ASTRA skyscraper is a proposed mixed-use tower designed by HKS that is set to become the tallest building in Salt Lake City, Utah. The design integrates office, residential, and hotel program elements into a single vertical composition that responds to the city’s growing urban density and economic activity. A slender profile rises above the skyline with a faç ade articulated by vertical fins and glazed surfaces that aim to balance solar performance with expansive views. The tower’s base engages the street with retail and public realm components to support pedestrian activity.

Structural expression is emphasized through podium articulation and column rhythm, creating a sense of layered massing as the building ascends. Floor plates are configured to accommodate flexible layouts for tenants and residents, while amenity spaces are distributed vertically to connect social and private functions. The project incorporates sustainable systems intended to support energy efficiency and occupant comfort, with mechanical and façade strategies developed to respond to the regional climate.
