Archi-Tectonics Releases Its Fifth Monograph

Archi-Tectonics, the global architecture studio led by Winka Dubbeldam and co-led by Justin Korhammer, has released its fifth monograph — 'Monsters and Mutants: Explorations in the Architecture–Nature Continuum.' Published by Park Books Switzerland, this book presents a provocative framework for architectural design that actively reverses climate change.

Archi-Tectonics' 'Monsters and Mutants: Explorations in the Architecture–Nature Continuum' proposes a novel concept of architectural taxonomies built upon the untapped potential of plant intelligence — an area largely unexplored in architecture. The monograph draws lessons from how plants adapt to environmental stress and employ inherent survival mechanisms to inform regenerative building strategies. Central to this concept is the firm's pioneering master plan for the Asian Games in Hangzhou, Chin — a 47-hectare park with seven buildings designed in collaboration with !melk Landscape and Thornton Tomasetti Engineers.

Plant-informed Architecture
Biological intelligence from plant adaptation is reshaping building concepts around regenerative systems, climate resilience, and materials that respond to environmental stress.
Climate-reversing Design
Architecture framed as an active climate intervention creates openings for carbon-positive planning, ecological restoration, and performance-based urban development.
Hybrid Nature Taxonomies
New design classifications that merge architecture and natural systems signal demand for experimental frameworks connecting research, publishing, and built environments.

Who This Affects Most

Architecture
Studios integrating biomimicry and regenerative strategies are redefining premium design services through climate-responsive buildings and ecological master planning.
Urban Planning
Large-scale parks with embedded civic structures illustrate how cities can blend landscape infrastructure, public amenities, and environmental repair into unified developments.
Publishing
Specialized design monographs are becoming platforms for disseminating advanced ecological theories that influence professional practice, education, and cultural discourse.
