Water-Soluble E-Waste Solutions

Pentaform Presents the Potential E-Waste Solution with Aquafade

Tech startup company Pentaform has been working on Aquafade, which is a potential solution to e-waste. It is working on creating electronic gadgets that can dissolve in water and break down only into the electronic components that are for recycling. The idea is to form an electronic product and circuit board using a fully water-soluble plastic that is simultaneously biodegradable.

The product can be something like a computer that is coated with a thin waterproof layer from the outside that protects it from moisture and when its opened, the whole thing can dissolve in six to eight hours. Manfredi explains, "We want the coating to prevent the ingress of moisture but also we want the coating to make it a bit tougher, to make it stiffer and to allow it to take a bit more punishment. We've actually found formulations to do both in isolation and now the next stage is combining the two compositions."
