The Apple House by Okra is a pavilion-style building constructed with a spruce glulam frame, cleft oak cladding, hempcrete walls and an unfired clay floor. The structure uses a column-free portal frame to create an open interior suited to workshops and community gatherings. Large openings on all sides connect the space to surrounding woodland, a vegetable garden, and a plant library that hosts a wide range of species. The materials are selected for low environmental impact and for their ability to maintain a calm indoor atmosphere.
The interior is arranged for adaptable programming, including gardening classes, creative activities and wellbeing events. Circulation paths remain level to support accessibility and allow visitors to move easily between indoor and outdoor areas. The design emphasises a direct relationship with the landscape by using natural finishes and clear views.
