Anatomically Imperfect Furniture

The 'Appalstered Collection' is Full of Lumps and Bumps

Designer Denny Priyatna's 'Appalstered Collection' is full of unusual furniture pieces that express the imperfections of the human body.

It was the designer's aim to challenge common perceptions of comfort, creating furniture with unique characteristics to remind the onlooker of their own imperfections. The collection is comprised of two kinds of furniture: 'Damaged' and 'Diseased.' The 'Diseased' furniture features disruptive designs that are intended to be reflective of acne or tumors -- these protrusions look as uncomfortable as they feel. The 'Damaged' furniture is purposefully covered with cuts and rips that open up when someone sits on the furniture piece, to make for an unnatural lounging experience.

The Appalstered Collection aims to trigger conversations among the audience to elicit discomfort and shock. This furniture was created in response to the compulsive demand for perfection in both design and life.
