Geo-targeted ads often take place in online formats but a new set of American Express geo-targeted ads leverages NYC's iconic yellow taxis. These geo-targeted ads first appeared on 125 cabs in the city all of which feature American Express merchant rooftop signs. These signs will then tap into GPS technology to deliver an ad for an American Express partnered company that is in the same area as the cab. These American Express geo-targeted ads offer another line of revenue for the financial company while also showing the connection AmEx has with businesses throughout New York.
In areas without any nearby American Express business partners, the geo-targeted signs will simply display an ad about the neighborhood the taxi is in. These neighborhood ads are specific and individually made for each borough and aim to give tourists a sense of the place they are visiting.
