Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Engines

Airbus is in the Works of Creating a New Hydrogen Engine

Airbus is working towards the goal of reaching zero-emissions in aircraft service by 2035 and recently announced the development it has in the works of creating a hydrogen fuel-cell engine. It is designed for airplanes and will function from an electric motor similar to the way that fuel-cell cars work. It will only emit H20 and it could eventually work its way up to employing commercial aircraft that carry up to 100 passengers.

Airbus's VP of Zero-Emissions Aircraft Glenn Llewellyn states that "Fuel cells are a potential solution to help us achieve our zero-emission ambition and we are focused on developing and testing this technology to understand if it is feasible and viable for a 2035 entry-into-service of a zero-emission aircraft."
