Philippe Starck Explores Tech Design With The A.I Chairs
Amy Duong — April 17, 2019 — Art & Design
Designer Philippe Starck introduces the A.I Chairs, created by experimenting with artificial intelligence technology. Starck challenged himself to push the boundaries of design manufacturing, working together with furniture creator Kartell and engineering firm Autodesk to test 3D software.
Kartell has worked with the designer before, but it breached new experiences with Autodesk as it leverages technology to design. The concept of the design was to simply fit the human body comfortably in a seat using the least amount of materials as the trio could. The chair was also structurally conscious, ensuring that it met design aesthetic requirements. Autodesk's Senior Director of Design states, “this is a research collaboration at the pinnacle of the industrial design world, resulting in one of the most creative outcomes we’ve ever tried to achieve with generative design.”
