Walmart Implemented AI Camera Technology To Prevent Losses

The retail giant, Walmart, has been an early adapter of AI technology, even implementing AI camera technology to prevent theft. The company has stated that they have implemented computer vision technology at 1,000 locations. The technology is used to prevent theft by monitoring the store's checkouts as well as self-checkouts.

The program is titled the Missed Scan Detection program and it operates by notifying employees if items that go past a scanning device without being scanned.

Walmart has indicated the success of the AI camera technology, stating that losses have gone down where the program has been implemented. Walmart is one of the only retailers that implement AI, let alone in a way that focuses on loss prevention. The program's early success could result in its widespread adoption.
