A group of students from Singapore's Republic Polytechnic recently won top prize for their phone addiction app, which gives users points for staying off their smartphones. Described as the "anti-app," Apple Tree provides incentive by growing apples and encouraging users to have more meaningful human interaction. The longer they can stay off their smartphones, the more apples will grow.
The phone addiction app won $24,000 USD (S$30,000) for coming in first place (out of 63 entries) at the Splash Awards. Their winnings will go toward making the app free for Singaporeans to download.
If you live in Singapore and are absolutely inseparable from your smartphone, the Apple Tree app is definitely worth looking into once it comes out next year.
