In an effort to get New York City's abandoned bicycles out of view, Pat Gamble started a social media initiative. By leveraging Instagram, New Yorkers can get involved with the Dead Pedal NY project and help authorities clean up old bikes. By taking pictures of abandoned bicycles on the street and uploading them to Instagram, users who share posts captioned with the hashtag deadpedalNY can contribute to their communities.
This crowdsourced communal clean-up effort frees up parking space by getting rid of the abandoned bicycles left locked to racks and street posts, whether the vehicles were damaged or simply left behind. By bringing attention to the eyesores and geotagging them, citizens can make a difference in their city in a meaningful way.
