Uber and Wayve Launched Its Wayve AI Driver Service

Uber and Wayve have begun offering rides in London using Ford Mustang Mach-Es equipped with the Wayve AI Driver, featuring surround sensors and Wayve’s autonomous driving software. Some UberX, Uber Electric and Uber Comfort requests can now be matched with the vehicles, while a Transport for London-licensed driver remains behind the wheel to intervene if needed.

More than 140,000 Londoners have enabled the option through Uber’s Trip Preferences, and passengers can switch to a regular Uber before the vehicle arrives. Wayve says its system has been trained on London roads since 2018, while in-car displays show the planned route and support 64 languages. The service currently operates across London, excluding airports.

For riders, the rollout provides access to AI-assisted driving in real-world urban conditions while retaining a licensed human safety driver. The program also supports Uber and Wayve’s broader plan to bring Wayve-powered vehicles to 12 global markets.
