OpenAI Foundation Introduced Its $100M Hepatitis C Initiative

The OpenAI Foundation committed $100 million to the Common Health Coalition to launch a national initiative aimed at improving hepatitis C treatment and cure rates. The Breakthroughs to Follow-Through initiative will begin with collaborations in Alabama, Illinois, Louisiana and Massachusetts, with plans to expand to eight states and localities.

Participating organizations will use generative AI tools to identify patients who have fallen out of care and reconnect them with treatment. AI will also help synthesize patient records, automate administrative work, track progress across the care continuum and help care teams prioritize limited resources. The program will provide technical assistance, implementation expertise and data-management support, with the goal of at least doubling cure rates in participating jurisdictions over two years.

For patients, the initiative aims to improve access to proven hepatitis C treatments by strengthening follow-through between diagnosis and care.
