The Yongping Warehouse renovation is a project by Atelier cnS that transforms a row of former grain storage buildings in Foshan into a mixed-use site topped with a public rooftop park. The Yongping Warehouse renovation retains the original warehouse structures while inserting new circulation paths through the gaps between buildings, preserving sightlines toward the Huadi River. Interior levels accommodate commercial functions, while the design shifts public activity upward to the roof, where landscaped surfaces extend across the full footprint of the site.
A series of lightweight domes constructed from hexagonal frames are distributed across the rooftop, forming shaded zones without enclosing the space. These translucent canopies diffuse light while maintaining open views, creating areas for seating, movement, and play. The roofscape is shaped into slopes and steps that echo the pitched geometry of the original warehouses

Yongping Warehouse Renovation Adds a Public Park Beneath Translucent Canopies
Trend Themes
1. Adaptive Rooftop Activation - Rooftop landscapes layered over existing structures create new publicly accessible square footage capable of reshaping urban land-use value chains.
2. Translucent Canopy Systems - Light-diffusing, open-canopy skins that maintain sightlines introduce opportunities for scalable weather-mitigated outdoor programming across climates.
3. Hexagonal Lightweight Framing - Modular hexagonal frames offer structurally efficient, easily deployable envelopes that can standardize temporary and semi-permanent rooftop interventions.
Industry Implications
1. Urban Real Estate Development - Repurposing underused rooftops into amenity-rich public spaces has the potential to unlock new revenue models and property valuation strategies.
2. Landscape Architecture and Public Space Design - Elevated park systems that prioritize views and microclimate control present design-led opportunities to reconceive amenity offerings in dense cities.
3. Prefabricated Architectural Components - Manufacture of lightweight, translucent canopy modules could disrupt supply chains by enabling rapid deployment of climate-adaptive building skins.
