Residential Waterfront Projects

Bourgeois / Lechasseu Design the L'échouage Residence

Bourgeois / Lechasseur architects has completed a residential waterfront project on a constrained site along the St. Lawrence River. Located in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Canada, the design approach to the dwelling preserved and elevated an existing seasonal cottage while integrating new ancillary structures.

Bourgeois / Lechasseur architects' design response to the residential waterfront project was heavily dictated by regulatory limitations concerning shoreline setbacks and environmental considerations for rising water levels. This resulted in a composition of separate pavilions connected by an elevated walkway. The preserved cottage serves as the central living area, with additional volumes housing private bedrooms and a separate dwelling unit. All of these components are arranged to maintain privacy while offering strategic views of the river.

For materials, Bourgeois / Lechasseur architects opted for dual-toned cedar cladding, with the aim of creating a visual and experiential harmony between the built environment and the natural landscape of sandy bays and glacial boulders.
