Cars are an expensive commodity, and in a stagnant economy, car makers must entice consumers that their autos are splurge-worthy in the most economical manner possible. And while motorcycles are significantly less expensive than cars in terms of their initial purchase, they're still a tough sell among penny-pinching commuters.
Some carmakers target smaller, more focused groups. Harley-Davidson has amped up its female-focused marketing, while Renault includes drag queens in a new commercial. Other carmakers prefer to lighten the mood with some humor, like Renault's ads that feature naughty URLs and absurd in-laws clad in wedding dresses.
