Not only are brands capitalizing on current content, but they are also borrowing from the past to create unexpected, nostalgia-inducing collections.

One of the brands best known for borrowing from pop culture is MAC Cosmetics. For instance, the brand recently announced the release of a cosmetics collection inspired by the upcoming Star Trek film. The brand has also looked to older sources of inspiration with a makeup line honoring the late singer Selena Quintanilla, as well as a collection based around the popular Troll Doll toys of the 90s.
