On World Sight Day, Shine Foundation and Cheekbone Beauty unveiled a first-of-its-kind makeup palette to make beauty more accessible for the blind and low-vision community.
Shine Foundation, the Canadian not-for-profit fulfilling dreams of youth living with severe physical disabilities, teamed up with Indigenous-owned Canadian beauty brand Cheekbone Beauty to create Scarlette's Palette. This prototype makeup palette developed for 14-year-old Scarlette features raised exterior patterns and logos for product identification, tactile navigation with arrows indicating orientation and opening, a raised QR code that links to an audio description of each shade, and shape indicators for individual shades.
Although Scarlette's Palette remains in the prototyping phase and is not yet available for purchase, Shine Foundation and Cheekbone Beauty hope to start a conversation about the need for more accessible beauty products.
