28 App-Enabled Payment Systems

From Text Message Payments to Crossover Wallet Apps:

With the majority of consumers now using their smartphone to carry out a number of daily tasks, app-enabled payment systems have become a quick and convenient way to speed up the process of paying for different services. Now companies are experimenting with different ways to use these platforms in order to improve the digital payment experience.

One of the most interesting innovations in app-enabled payment systems is the move towards touch-free services. For example, SnapScan is a South African service that allows users to pay with Bluetooth instead of scanning a code. Another example is the new McDonald's app that uses iBeacon technology to speed up the payment process at the drive-thru.

In addition to hands-free payments, app-enabled payment platforms have also evolved to facilitate bill-splitting. This is particularly important for restaurants and taxi companies, as they often face the task of collecting multiple payments. Some examples of app's that facilitate bill-slitting include Uber's new Family Profiles feature, Flypay's mobile payment app and Tabio's bar tab platform.
