World Toilet Day Infographic Details the Shortage of Toilets in the World

Unicef recently released a World Toilet Day infographic detailing the challenges around the issue of adequate sanitation infrastructure around the world.

2.5 Billion people still do not have access to a safe and clean toilet. To put that stat in perspective, it is 37% of the world's population. This World Toilet Day infographic reveals an eye opening statistic for the developed world who generally think about proper plumbing as standard infrastructre. Imagine eating that McDonald's Big Mac and then not having a safe, clean bathroom to hang out in an hour later.

A similar percentage (30%) of the world's population has intestinal worm infections.1,800 children under the age of five die every day from diarrhea diseases, which is affected by factors like hygiene, sanitation and safe water.
