The West 84th Street brownstone preserves its original exterior while unveiling an unexpectedly expansive interior. Beyond the landmarked facade lies a 32-foot great room with 11-foot ceilings, forming the spatial centerpiece of the renovation. The design retains traditional cornices and window details yet introduces a contemporary sense of openness, emphasizing scale and natural light. By balancing restoration with reinvention, the architects created a home that honors history without confining itself to it.
Inside, marble, herringbone oak, and subtle plasterwork replace visual excess with quiet texture. Kitchens and bathrooms are conceived as sculptural elements, distinguishing zones without breaking flow.
