The Montpellier House by Vives St-Laurent represents a sophisticated fusion of contemporary design and natural integration. This private sanctuary is nestled within the forested slopes of Montérégie.
Vives St-Laurent developed this project in collaboration with ATA Architecture. The Montpellier House distinguishes itself through its harmonious relationship with the terrain as it employs a partially buried garden level that follows the natural incline of Mount Saint-Bruno. This approach not only minimizes the home’s visual impact but also establishes a seamless transition between architecture and landscape. The design prioritizes spatial fluidity, with an open-plan layout organized around an interior courtyard and a fully glazed rear façade that frames uninterrupted views of the forest.
Upon entry, a linear vestibule guides occupants toward a sunken living area, characterized by a double-height ceiling and a dramatic vertical curtain that amplifies the sense of volume. The fireplace, clad in California-sourced terracotta ceramic, serves as a focal point.
