For patients, the road to recovery can be tedious and lengthy, especially when it involves elongated stays in an uncomfortable hospital bed, which is why one Dutch startup created 'VisitU' -- a virtual reality live streaming system that connects patients to their loved ones in real-time.
Although Skype and Facetime exist as a popular method of communication, patients enduring elongated hospital stays required a more connective way to feel as though they are experiencing real-life events. Through the use of a VR headset an accompanied app and a live streaming webcam, VisitU enables patients to be temporarily transported to to where their loved ones are. The headset offers the wearer an immersive 360 degree view of whatever the webcam is capturing, enabling bedridden hospital patients to feel as though they're participating in birthday parties, gatherings or a family dinner.
As a result of this technology, the quality of a patient's hospital experience can be enhanced, potentially promoting a quicker and healthier recovery.
