The BiotaGelata is a dairy-free frozen dessert brand put together by three students from the University of Alberta that offers consumers vegan gelatos made from fermented beans. The beans offer a similar creamy texture to ice cream creating an ideal dairy-free substitution to create a decadent blended base.
Many gelatos are typically made using some sort of dairy to give the frozen dessert an element of creaminess. Typically vegan-friendly alternatives are made using plant or nut milks, but the BiotaGelata brand offers an innovative substitute by using fermented beans that replicate the texture of milk without compromising the product's vegan ingredient list. The use of beans also adds protein to the dessert for a guilt-free indulgence. Currently the product is offered in three flavors which include Maple Walnut, Passion Fruit and Dark chocolate Cassis.
