Undía is a Chair Shaped by the Rhythm of a Wave to Create a Flowing Seat

— February 9, 2026 — Art & Design
Undía is a seating design that takes its form from a continuous, wave-inspired geometry, using curves to define both structure and surface. The chair’s profile is sculpted with undulating lines that rise and fall in a rhythmic sequence, with a shape intended to support sitting and leaning positions without separate cushions or detachable parts. The base and seat merge visually, creating a unified contour that transitions smoothly between functional zones of support.

The chair is constructed from layered wood, with alternating lamellae arranged to follow the wave-like pattern. This laminated build allows the curvature of the piece to be achieved through controlled bending and stacking rather than cut volume alone. Surface finishes highlight the natural grain of the wood, and edges are softened through sanding and finishing to emphasise continuity across the form.

Undía’s proportions are set so that the seat and backrest are defined by changes in curvature rather than sharp transitions, creating a flowing silhouette. The chair’s legs are integrated into the overall form, following the same continuous lines as the seat, and are shaped to provide stability without interrupting the visual movement.
