The TypeFrame project has been designed by Jeff Merrick as a digital typewriter system that responds to the increasing number of users who find it difficult to stay focused when working or writing on conventional computers.
The systems come in two models including the PX-88 and the PS-85, which are each built with a keyboard and a display with no other functionality to keep users on task. The systems have an open-source interface powered by Raspberry Pi boards and are thus well-suited for customization to address specific user requirements or preferences.
The TypeFrame project takes a more direct approach to digital distractions that could work even better than distractions-blocking apps and focus modes. The systems are part of a larger wave of so-called dumb tech products being developed to help consumers with smartphone addiction or the like by completely eliminating functionalities.
