At CES 2020, the Toyota Woven City was announced as a "living laboratory" that will be created at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan, sharing a unique vision for a smart city of the future. Toyota describes its Woven City as a "fully connected ecosystem powered by hydrogen fuel cells" that is set to include full-time researchers and residents who will be involved in the development of smart homes and personal mobility solutions, as well as autonomous and robotic technology.
The "woven" component of the city involves a design that separates streetscapes in a way that offers unique intersections and opportunities for vehicles and pedestrians to co-exist and interact.
The project is centered on collaboration, advanced mobility, clean technology, natural connections and architecture designs of the future.
