The Torax Fruit Bowl is More Than a Bare-Boned Culinary Accessory

— September 5, 2012 — Art & Design
The designer of the Torax Fruit Bowl might have been striving for a touch of minimalism with this piece, but it certainly isn't as plain as that. Of course, it is a simplification of the skeleton that inspired it but it has been infused with a hint of playfulness as well.

Bright white MDF waste was used to manufacture this rigidly geometric object that mimics the human ribcage. It was CNC cut as such to embody a perfect symmetry that you would not find in a genuine anatomical example.

Danilo Calvache's piece would be perfectly suited to most contemporary spaces, for placement on a countertop, a kitchen table, a sideboard or a coffee table. It performs quite well as a holder of apples, pears and bananas and, all the while, the Torax Fruit Bowl reveals its eccentric self.
