In the recent years, more and more westerners are surprised to see the great changes happened in Japan’s bakery industry due to their continuous creativeness and improvement.
For example, the 103-year-old Donq creates over 70 kinds of breads and pastries, including seasonal fruit tarts, Vienna-style pastries and traditional French breads by using flour from France, Italy and three different regions in Japan. It also offers seasonal limited items such as the latest white peach jam, which is perfect for a sweet cooll summer breakfast.
As the first Western-style bakery in Tokyo, Donq owns 140 shops in Japan. Many other stylish bakeries can also be easily spotted between Aoyama and Shibuya, the most fashionable area in Tokyo downtown.
French graphic artist Jean Pierre Dardenne even told NYT that after he tasted Japanese bakeries’ breads, he found boulangeries in his home country are “mediocre.”
