The New Tiffany & Co. Store Features a Spiralling Glass Ribbon Façade

— January 14, 2026 — Art & Design
The Tiffany & Co. store in Beijing is a retail building designed by MVRDV located on the world’s longest shopping street, Chang’an Avenue, in Beijing, China. The façade is constructed from a continuous spiralling glass ribbon that wraps the exterior and modulates daylight entering the interior. The ribbon consists of transparent, translucent, and fritted glass panels that vary in opacity to control solar gain and daylight penetration. The building includes multiple retail floors organized around a central atrium space. Interior spaces are arranged to support display areas, customer circulation, and brand presentation consistent with Tiffany & Co.’s luxury retail program.

MVRDV developed the design to integrate with the urban streetscape while providing a distinctive architectural identity for the flagship. The structure’s form and materiality respond to Beijing’s climatic conditions and regulatory context. Vertical circulation is accommodated through stair and elevator cores positioned within the plan. The project uses engineered steel framing to support the glass ribbon and façade system, and interior finishes incorporate materials selected for durability and display readiness.
