New York studio Diller Scofidio + Renfro completes its Tianjin Juilliard School in northeastern China -- a branch campus of the Juilliard School in New York. The 32,500-square-meter performing arts institution is situated next to the Hai River in Tianjin.
Glass bridges link four steel and concrete pavilions to create mixed performance and teaching spaces. Like the New York campus, the project seeks to increase public engagement with the arts by offering spaces with world-class acoustics.
Reflective pools wrap around the modern building to inspire creativity and invite visitors inside. In addition, the facility contains a 690-seat concert hall, a 299-seat recital hall, and a 225-seat black box theatre, alongside offices and rehearsal spaces.
