The Waterbench is a concrete bench that collects rainwater. It serves as a rain well for the plants that reside at the center of the bench. Barbara Standaert is the brainpower behind the innovative bench design. As the expansion of concrete jungles continues inevitably, Standaert makes rainwater collection easier amidst the non-absorbent surfaces. Overall, the Waterbench aims to facilities the maintenance of greenery in the city.
The watering solution provides a permanent water supply while guaranteeing a dry seat. The concrete bench's surface is porous to absorb the water sufficiently, which allows the water to collect in concrete reservoirs for plants to use via a nylon cord. The bench's water reservoir holds up to 280 liters.
