WAA Designed the Playscape for a Sensory Learning Experience
Elena Rahman — October 18, 2021 — Art & Design
The Playscape was designed by We Architect Anonymous (WAA) as a sensory learning experience. The design firm transformed a former Beijing warehouse into a landscape project. Shortlisted for the Dezeen Awards 2021, the Playscapep is made for a children's healthcare provider specializing in explorative play.
As a tool for sensory learning, the Playscape encompasses a group of industrial buildings that form the basis of the project. Its central courtyard is transformed into undulating, steel-framed landscapes boasting a series of interactions. Overall, the structure allows a managed element of risk for children to learn confidence and problem-solving skills when faced with tangible obstacles. The Playscape includes built-in trampolines, scalable mounds, and cut-outs revealing bright play areas.
