Timber-Centric Non-Profit Headquarters

S9 Architecture Designs for The Cleveland Foundation

American design firm S9 Architecture has created a building for The Cleveland Foundation. It is defined by a warm cedar cladding with large windows to welcome natural light, along with a post-and-beam structural system that is crafted from mass timber. It is situated on the edge of the Hough neighborhood in the city, which is rooted in an important history. This is amongst the first completed structures of many in the innovative district.

The building was a direct response to the extensive research conducted and it is developed next to a grassy park. The studio explains, "Within and along the edges of the building, the intent was to soften and blur the lines between public and private realm, indoor and outdoor spaces, and community and place. The site is adjacent to the historic Dunham Tavern and borders three distinct conditions: park, city and neighbourhood. The merging of these conditions is a strong basis for the design."
