Super Bowl social media is just as important as the ads that are aired on game day, especially for brands that want to maximize the exposure of short ad spots. Surprisingly, just over 50% of Super Bowl commercials this year used hashtags, with some of the most used hashtags on Facebook and Twitter including Honda's #hugfest, as well as #bestbuds and #saluteahero by Budweiser.
Esurance totally dominated social media this year by buying a commercial spot after the Super Bowl and hosting a $1.5 million giveaway to one lucky Twitter user who used a particular hashtag. The contest was about as simple as it could possibly be, with a huge incentive for people across the US to participate in sharing the hashtag.
