Studio Locomotive Was Behind the Apsara Cruise

— January 17, 2026 — Art & Design
Studio Locomotive is recognized for its architectural and interior design work on the Apsara Cruise, a repurposed historical rice barge that now functions as a dining cruise on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. The design of this space recently received the Bar & Restaurant of the Year award from the World Architecture Festival Interiors.

The Apsara Cruise project involved the adaptive reuse of a traditional wooden cargo vessel. Studio Locomotive worked to retain the original hull in the contemporary repurposing of the boat while adding a new superstructure inspired by local bamboo canopies and incorporating contemporary artistic interpretations of Thai cultural motifs across its three decks. The Apsara Cruise's design also integrated modern hospitality amenities, a full kitchen, and decorative elements such as illustrative glass murals into the historic framework
