Large-Scale Ceramic Installations

Studio RAP Outfits a Luxury Hotel in Dubai with Blue Voyage

Architectural design practice Studio RAP has created a pair of large-scale ceramic installations for the lobby of a luxury hotel in Dubai. The project is named Blue Voyage, and it takes its aesthetic inspiration from the motion of water in the adjacent gulf.

Studio RAP's large-scale ceramic installations feature curved, wave-like forms with detailed surface textures that change in appearance under different lighting conditions. A notable technical aspect is the use of custom three-dimensional printing to fabricate approximately nine hundred distinct tiles, which were then assembled to form walls measuring six meters in height and nine meters in length. This method allowed for complete design control from the initial digital model to the final physical object. This seamless, sculptural presence frames the hotel's entrance.

The installation is presented as a significant achievement in the application of computational design and automated fabrication.
