The news can be depressing, highlighting many of the ills of the world without being able to offer any sort of solution, but Speakable is trying to change readers' ability to interact with the news cycle. The startup's newest feature, called the Action Button, offers news readers the opportunity to take action and support causes that aim to ameliorate the issues they are reading about.
Speakable's Action Button can be embedded on any publishers page, for any and all articles. Its code analyzes the content of the article in question and automatically suggests different options for contributing to that cause. Through the action button, users can quickly make donations, sign petitions, and even send emails to the appropriate legislators.
By giving people the opportunity to take action at the moment when they feel strongest about something (i.e. exactly when they read about it,) Speakable's Action Button can increase charity and activism online.
