Although the fear of missing out is a huge part of what drives teens to be active on the web, social media privacy is an issue that's becoming increasingly important for all Internet users. Youth in particular are abandoning social networks like Facebook for three major reasons: there are too many adults on the platform, overwhelming amounts of advertising and a lack of privacy.
As TeenSafe's infographic describes, "privacy" is more about having a safe space for expression away from authority figures and consequences.
As such, it's no surprise that many young social media users are turning to anti-social media networks and favoring disconnection from technology as a means to authentically connect with others teens.
