Smoothy is a group video chat app that has the potential to bring together up to eight people at once for a shared conversation. As well as being able to see the faces of friends on-screen, users can interact with one another by sending in-app messages to one another.
Smoothy sets itself apart by starting the multi-person video chats in silent mode, which means that the calls have the potential to be answered anywhere without causing a disruption.
As Smoothy is one of Samsung's C-Lab Outside start-ups—and will be featured at CES 2020—it's worth noting that the video calls use Samsung AR Emoji as avatars. These expressive emojis are capable of mirroring a user's facial expressions in real-time, helping to make video calls all the more entertaining.
