SmartSense by Digi, an IoT developer, is now used by various restaurant franchises for temperature monitoring. The Internet of Things, or IoT, brings unique benefits to restaurant operations. Recently, Jollibee, the Philippines-based parent company of Chowking and Red Ribbon restaurants, announced that Digi's IoT device is used at 100 locations.
Digi's SmartSense tracks temperatures with two methods. Embedded sensors provide continuous temperature monitoring, which is the first method. The second is a Bluetooth monitor for food-safety temperature logging and spot checks. The device alerts its operators if temperatures are not up to standard and food safety codes. Additionally, SmartSense also detects equipment failures to ensure proper functioning across the organization. Jollibee's main use, however, is oriented around food safety.
