7-Eleven announced on the 26th that it has partnered with SK hynix to launch a truly one-of-a-kind private-label product: a snack inspired by an HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) semiconductor chip.
The new release, the Seven Select Honey Banana HBM Chip, turns SK hynix’s HBM—a high-speed memory chip developed in 2013 for AI applications—into a snackable delight. The flavor and name play on words: Honey Banana Mat (HBM) Chip, presented in a square shape that mimics the look of an actual HBM chip. Even the characteristics of the original semiconductor are mirrored in the snack: the precision of nanometer-scale engineering is reflected in the clean, geometric shape.
The packaging features SK hynix’s semiconductor-themed humanoid character, and each snack comes with one of 30 collectible stickers. Customers can enter a special promotion by submitting the number on the back of their sticker through the Seven app, adding a gamified layer to the launch.
To amplify the release, 7-Eleven plans a creative advertising campaign coinciding with the product launch, featuring the character presenting the Honey Banana HBM Chip at a whimsical SK hynix “new product announcement."
