Portuguese Design duo DDiArte have produced a series of photographs that will leave you breathless. The series titled, ‘Silent Passion,’ depicts female figures submerged in dark water accented sharply by a crimson piece of fabric that flutters its way throughout the series like a butterfly at dusk.
Through its soft interplay of light and shadow and the listless expressions worn by its muses, Silent Passion screams quietude. The women in the photographs pose in sultry, even seductive ways but their expressions are understated—it is as though they cannot realize whatever desires they may have. Reading into the series further, one may say they are trapped.
The red fabric is stunning, the models are beautiful and the light and shadow are poignant. However, the most prominent feature of Silent Passion is the water. It envelopes every aspect of each photograph.
