Shore Buddies are a brand of adorable plush toys that are made using recycled plastic materials only—helping to decrease the amount of waste that goes into the environment. So far, the company has reused more than 500,000 plastic bottles to make the toys, with the recycled plastic flakes used for stuffing, or melted down to be turned into a polyester yarn. To create one toy, the company repurposes approximately six plastic bottles. For each one purchased, Shore Buddies also donates $1 to a charity that supports marine life.
The plush animals are offered in five varieties that speak to Shore Buddies' cause and appeal to kids who are interested in learning more about ocean life. The lineup includes Finn the Dolphin, Shelly the Sea Turtle, Stephen Seagull, Sammy the Seal, and Emma the Whale. To provide a more immersive experience and to help kids learn about the impacts of pollution, entrepreneur Malte Niebelschuetz recently launched 'Shore Buddies and the Plastic Ocean Book,' a book that follows the five friends on their mission to fight ocean plastic pollution.
