LA is Developing 84 Units of Affordable Housing
Ellen Smith — October 3, 2017 — Art & Design
In attempt to combat Los Angeles' homeless epidemic, 'KTGY Architecture + Planning' is transforming one of the city's neighborhoods into a shipping container development.
This inventive urban design model will be both cost-effective and easy to assemble, serving as a creative solution to the city's housing crisis. Multiple shipping containers will be stacked together, creating the base of a four-storey building, which faces onto a shared courtyard.
The design was thoughtfully put together, aiming to provide "new residents with privacy and security, as well as fostering a strong sense of community." This new shipping container development is set to take over LA's Westlake Neighborhood, providing an expected 84 units, while serving as a solution to the housing crisis, that can be applied on a global scale.
