Mattel recently expanded its Shero Barbie collection with a doll inspired by famous ballerina Misty Copeland. Copeland has quickly become an inspiration for many young women after becoming the American Ballet Theatre's first female African-American Principal Dancer. Now the ballerina has been immortalized in Barbie form to give children everywhere a powerful new role model.
The new Misty Copeland doll is part of Mattel's Sheros program, which turns female icons into Barbies. The doll modeled after Copeland features a fiery orange outfit inspired by the dancer's first principle role in 'The Firebird.' The doll also features delicate pointe shoes that can be used to recreate different dance positions.
The new Shero Barbie ultimately helps Mattel reach a new generation of children who are looking for more diverse female role models.
