Parametric Cultural Museums

The Seoul Robot & AI Museum is Designed by Melike Altınışık Architects

The Seoul Robot & AI Museum is a parametric cultural institution located in the Chang-dong district of northeast Seoul, and was designed by Turkish studio Melike Altınışık Architects and opened in 2024. The building's exterior shell is wrapped in 3,422 double-curved metal panels, each a unique geometry, cut by laser CNC machines and welded by industrial robots. On-site 3D scanning maintained alignment tolerances across the full spherical envelope.

The surface gridding pattern reflects the structural steel grid behind it, making the building's skeleton visible through its skin. The interior features a vertical exhibition tunnel at the building's center, and robots greet visitors at the entrance. The Seoul Robot & AI Museum's permanent exhibitions trace the development of artificial intelligence from early fraud detection systems to generative models.
