Seasteading Institute is a non-profit organization based in San Francisco that would change the way people view governments and metropolises for years to come. The Seasteading Institute supports the idea of floating city-states that are each governed in different ways. People would be able to traverse freely between the different city-states before settling on one to pass the remainder of their time on earth.
A unique concept, to say the least, the Seasteading Institute appears like something out of a futuristic film. N+1 Magazine reports, "It combines its political ambitions with appeals to back-to-the-land survivalism, off-the-grid drug use, and a vague nostalgia for water parks." As its mission statement reads, "Establish permanent, autonomous ocean communities to enable experimentation and innovation with diverse social, political, and legal systems."
