Musical Highway Photos

Sam Jones' Photography Project is Set To Blake Mills' Original Music

Los-Angeles photographer Sam Jones collaborated with musician Blake Mills to put together this work, which brings together his photographic images -- compiled into a book -- and original music. The project offers a cinematic dialogue of photographs and music that complement and encourage deeper exploration of each other.

The photographs were taken around the North-South access of Highway 55, located along the Mississippi River. These images from the modern South hark back to a time when the United States highway regions had a sense of character and originality that has been lost with the proliferation of franchise companies.

Jones points out that while the photographic images and music stand comfortably on their own, there's a whole new level of synergy that occurs from fusing the two together, in that the images inform the music and vice-versa.
