Music AI-Generated Visual Art

Modem Joins Teenage Engineering and Bureau Cool on an Art Project

Hardware brand Teenage Engineering works in collaboration with design studios Bureau Cool and Modem on a new special art project that is based on artificial intelligence. The technology experiments with creating visuals from composing music. It is inspired by the neurological condition known as synesthesia, which is a rare phenomenon that allows the brain to create sensory input for different senses rather than one.

Listeners who have synesthesia may observe colors, and see movement and shapes when listening to music. For this project, the three efforts use the OP-X sequencer by Teenage Engineering to source the music and then translate that into Ai art. The design studios then use digital extensions to translate the music properties to create shapes and colors.
